Effective Tumblr: 「Tumblrはバナーではない新しい広告の形を模索する」
8,000億ドル（nseki注: 8億ドルの間違い）を追加調達し、3000万ブログに届こうとしている（一日後には届いた）というTumblrからのアナウンスを報じた「Tumblr Valued at $800 Million - WSJ.com」に、次のようなくだりがありました。
Tumblr executives and investors say the new infusion will help the company to continue to grow, and get more serious about developing new ways to make money from advertising. “We have an opportunity to bring on hundreds of millions more subscribers,” said Tumblr President John Maloney in an interview. “The goal is to scale the network to profitability.”
Tumblr.comを代表するDavid karpに比べると、Tumblr, Inc.を代表するといえそうなJohn Maloney社長へのインタビューは珍しい気がします。彼はここで「（われわれには）数億の購読者がいる。このネットワークを収益源に結びつくように拡 大するのがゴールだ」と話しています。
Tumblr’s investors said they believe the company’s active and growing user base gives it tremendous potential to make money. Like Facebook and Twitter, Tumblr is trying to develop new forms of advertising that work organically within its service rather than running traditional banner ads.
そしてTumblrは既存の古典的なバナー広告ではなく、このサービス内で有機的にはたらく新しい形の広告の開発に取り組むとのことです。以前に「買収という形でのExitだろうか。それとも同じく初期は収益化方法が見えなかったTwitterのように、意外にも自力で収益を上げるのだろうか」と書きましたが、後者の道を模索するようです。
普通にDashboardに1/20くらいで広告入れてくれても構わんよ。もちろんReblog可能なら尚よしだし、能動的に種類別の広告アカウントをFollowできれば更に良し。
